Fish Management & Stocking
Have you had more minnows on the hook then bass in your Indianapolis area pond?Ponds Rx can put together a personalized strategy to stock your pond with a sustainable ecosystem that will ensure larger fish.
Ponds and personal lakes in the Hamilton County and surrounding areas aren't always set up with correct environment to support larger fish but we can start that environment from the ground up and you will be putting fish on the table instead of talking about the one that got away.
If you live in the Indianapolis area and your pond already contains fish it would be a good idea to do an electro-fishing survey. We use specialized equipment to electrically stun an area of fish without harming them in order to catalog the species, weight, length, and health of the fish. We can then personalize your fish stocking plan to work with your ponds current habitat and spot issues that may cost you more money down the line.

Fish Stocking Options
While most sports fishermen are after a big bass that may not be what you are looking for.You could be looking to give the grand-kids a place to gain experience and catch fish quickly to keep them excited about fishing. You may enjoy trolling the bottom for channel catfish. We stock a large variety of fish that meet not only your preferences but can improve the health of your pond.
Large-Mouth Bass Stocking
Bass are perfect for trophy ponds. They grow relatively quickly (up to 1.5 pounds per year) and put up a great fight when on the hook. They also help manage smaller fish that may overpopulate your pond.
Bluegill Stocking
Bluegill can grow up to 12 inches long and about 4 pounds. They are great for the grand-kids to build up confidence and experience fishing. They are fun and easy to catch and can make a great accompanying fish for Bass. You should catch and release if Bass are the main goal. We also offer the hybrid bluegill seen here. Nothing better eating!
Crappie Stocking
Some people like Bass but there is nothing better than getting into a nest of crappie. Crappie can grow up to 18 inches an weigh about 4 pounds but the average is about 10-13 inches and 2-3 pounds. They spawn earlier than bass and require the same resources so if you plan on stocking Bass pass on the crappie.
Catfish Stocking
Bass and Crappie are fun but now we are getting into some serious lunkers. If you want the adventure of reeling in a 15-20 lb fish, catfish is what you want to stock. In the wild they have been known to grow to well over 100 lbs
Grass Carp Stocking
Grass Carp are incredible for weed control. They can eat up to 3 times their body weight a day and grow up to 5 lbs a year. If you are having an issue with duck weed, moss, or other aquatic weeds this is a must.
